PRESENTACIÓ
El Congrés és una nova iniciativa promoguda pel grup de recerca “Maquiavel·lisme i maquiavel·lismes a la cultura castellana i catalana (segles XVI – XXI)”, dirigit per la Prfª Helena Puigdomènech de la Universitat de Barcelona i dins del Projecte Internacional Machiavellism and Machiavellisms in the Western Political tradition (16th-20th Centuries), An international on site/on line Research and Dicussion Network (2007-2013), creat l’any 2007 per el Prof. Enzo Baldini, del Departament de Estudis Polítics de la Facultat de Ciències Polítiques de la Universitat de Torí http://www.unito.it/machiavelli.htm, http://www.hypermachiavellism.net/.
L’objectiu primordial del Congrés Internacional «Maquiavel a Espanya / Espanya a Maquiavel», que s’organitza a Barcelona, és el de reunir estudiosos i especialistes en l’obra i en la persona de Maquiavel. Així mateix actualitzar la configuració rigorosa i sistemàtica de la recepció i de la influència que ha tingut l’obra de Maquiavel en les diferents realitats culturals i polítiques viscudes a Espanya, des de el segle XVI fins als nostres dies. Es tractarà d’analitzar totes les reaccions, positives o negatives que hi hagué – i encara hi ha – a l’entorn d’un dels més grans pensadors del món occidental.
Els resultats de les activitats científiques organitzades, seran incorporats a la Xarxa telemàtica del portal Hypermachiavellism. Els usos i les interpretacions són variats i canvien segons les èpoques i les anàlisis que en fan els diferents pensadors. Considerem important replantejar totes aquestes qüestions per crear un ambient de debat apropiat de cara a la celebració l’any 2013 del 500 aniversari de la redacció de El Príncep.

Under the auspices of the University of Barcelona, the Conference “Macchiavelli in Spain, Spain in Macchiavelli” will be held at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània, of Barcelona, on the 5th and 6th of November 2009. The conference is a part of the International Project, “Machiavellism and Machicavellisms in the Western Political Tradition (16th-20th centuries)”.This international on-site/on-line Research and Discussion Network (2007-2013) is a project directed by the Universita de Torino which intends to gather and publish all the research done around the work pertaining to the person and ideas of Machiavelli from both his defenders and also his enemies.
“With an eye of the year 2013 (the fifth centennial of THE PRINCE) the Project is designed to encourage both European and American members of the Project to hold Conferences, Symposiums, etc., in which different manifestations of Machiavelli’s thought over the last five centuries will be studied.
The Barcelona conference “Machiavelli in Spain, Spain in Machiavelli” will demonstrate the importance that the Secretary’s ideas had in the political life of the peninsula, from the apparition of his first works in the sixteenth century until today. That Machiavelli’s ideas were known by the Spaniards and that they influenced the Spanish political thought was not known for years, and then even denied when first discussed. But the presence of Machiavelli’s works in Spain has been traced through the study of the Spanish Inquisition indexes, the catalogues of many private libraries, and an abundant number of letters of prominent Spaniards in which Machiavelli’s name and ideas are often found. The Barcelona conference promises to be an exciting exploration of Machiavelli’s presence in Spain.
